Updated "Development of Transition Roadmaps for Net-zero Emissions" (2025 Edition) Released
Meeting the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C and 2°C targets and achieving global carbon neutrality in the second half of the 21st century requires accelerated mitigation across all sectors. However, since transition pathways differ widely by region and sector, a uniform reduction approach risks driving up mitigation costs and hindering effective emissions reductions.
To support transition finance and clarify pathways to carbon neutrality, the Japanese government formulated transition roadmaps in FY2021 and FY2022. In FY2023, RITE complemented these efforts by publishing its own sectoral roadmaps. RITE's roadmaps ensure high consistency both across sectors and globally through the use of DNE21+--a global energy and climate policy assessment model featuring bottom-up, sector-specific technology assessments.
In response to the government's FY2025 roadmap revisions reflecting recent trends, RITE has updated its roadmaps by modifying key assumptions in the DNE21+ model.
