MOU Signed with Korea Energy Economics Institute (KEEI)
On August 29, 2025, the RITE Systems Analysis Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Energy Economics Institute (KEEI) to collaborate in areas such as energy policy and decarbonization.
Founded in September 1986, KEEI is Korea's only national research institute in the field of energy policy. KEEI's founding president was Dr. Hoesung Lee who served as IPCC Chair from 2015 to 2023. The current president, Dr. Hyun Jae Kim, was assigned its 14th president in June 2023.
KEEI's mission is "Contributing to the formulation of national energy policies and enhancing the quality of life of citizens," and it is working on the formulation of various energy and environmental policies for Korea, including the "Development of the 2050 Carbon Neutrality Scenario Plan".
RITE presented quantitative and comprehensive scenario analyses using the global energy and climate change mitigation model, "DNE21+" and the global energy-economic model "DEARS" and made a significant contribution to formulating policy direction for the 7th Strategic Energy Plan, the Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures, and the GX2040 Vision, those were approved by the Japanese Cabinet in February 2025.
Japan and South Korea both have low energy self-sufficiency rates and share common challenges in energy and environmental policy. For this reason, it is meaningful for the two research institutes to cooperate in areas such as energy policy and decarbonization, and through promoting exchanges, we aim to conduct joint research and hold workshops in areas of mutual interest.
