ABSTRACT

There has been an increasing interest in innovative technologies for plastics recycling which we recongnize in the most important issue toward the twenty first century. We have joined RITE(Research Institute of Technology for the Earth) to develop effective plastics recycling.

We did two studies; (1) PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) bottles recycling through the application of technique of chain extender and (2) FRP(Fiber Reinforced Polymers) recycling using EPM (Expandable Particle Mixture) method which is new molding system developed by Teijin Ltd.

In the former case, for example, PET flakes recovered from soft drinkbottles were treated with a chain extender in a twin-screw extruder converting to more vicous (higher molecular weight) polymers which could be applied to endress pipe extruder.

In the latter case, FRP could be applied to EPM recycling system without fine pulverization.
