Chemical CO2 solvents operating at high pressures

Some chemical CO2 solvents are designed for CO2 capture under relatively high pressure conditions from large-scale sources, including coal gasification gases prior to combustion (Pre Combustion Capture) or extracted natural gases.

As an additional outcome of our research and development of highly energy-efficient liquid CO2 solvents, we have identified chemical CO2 solvents with excellent CO2 absorption and desorption performances under high pressure conditions. Currently, we are developing CO2 capture processes capable of operating under high pressure conditions with improved performance. These newly developed solvents exhibit high CO2 recoveries and high CO2 absorption and desorption rates with low levels of CO2 absorption heats under high pressure conditions, and thus should allow CO2 capture with significantly reduced energy consumption. Using these newer solvents, the total energy required for CO2 capture, including an associated compression process, has been estimated to be less than 1.2 GJ/t-CO2.
